DotonboriSymbolized by the Shochikuza theater, Kani Doraku, and the Glico sign, Dotonbori is a representative entertainment district of Minami in Osaka. The name Dotonbori derives from Yasui Doton, who in Keicho 17 (1612) used his own private fortune to excavate the canal. Later, under the shogunate’s urban planning, playhouses from all over Osaka were gathered on the south side of Dotonbori, and 47 mizuchaya (water teahouses) were licensed, long flourishing as the home of Japanese theater. As large crowds gathered for the plays, eateries naturally prospered as well. Today, the Shochikuza near Ebisubashi Bridge is the only playhouse that remains, but along the north side of Dotonbori Street, restaurants of every genre stand side by side, bustling all year round. In recent years, the Tombori River Walk, a riverside promenade, has also been gaining popularity.

Osaka Castle / Osaka-jo HallOsaka Castle is a Japanese castle built during the Sengoku period at the tip of the Uemachi Plateau, in Ōsaka of Ikutama-no-shō, Higashinari District, Settsu Province. The current main keep (tenshu) was reconstructed in 1931.
The area encompassing Osaka-jo Hall—a dome-shaped multipurpose arena used for concerts and sporting events—and the castle ruins has been developed as Osaka Castle Park (Ōsaka-jō Kōen).
