The tea ceremony (Sadō/Chadō) is one of Japan’s traditional cultural arts, emphasizing the preparation and serving of matcha (powdered green tea) with a deep sense of etiquette and spirituality.

Its origins trace back to tea culture introduced from China, and it was perfected in Japan by Sen no Rikyu.

The essence of the tea ceremony lies not simply in drinking tea, but in the philosophy of “Wa-Kei-Sei-Jaku” (harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility), through which host and guest connect with one another.

Seasonal utensils, hanging scrolls, and flowers are carefully selected to reflect the beauty of each moment and to cherish the concept of “Ichigo Ichie” (once-in-a-lifetime encounters).

Enjoy a cup of tea while experiencing the traditional tea ceremony, a rare opportunity you don’t often encounter.

We look forward to welcoming you and being part of your memorable trip to Kyoto.
